I wanted to capture images of antelope in the month of June when there fawns are very young, less that 2 weeks old. This may sound easy however it is not. The antelope does are very elusive with their newborn fawns. During the fawning season the antelope are at their most dispersed stage of the year. After the fawns reach about 2 weeks of age they start to gather into groups once again.
Thanks to the help from my friends at Nevada Dept. of Wildlife I went to a location in northern Nevada. After a long drive from Reno I arrived in the antelope area sometime in the middle of the night. After getting a couple hours sleep the 4am alarm rang in my ear.
I was pleasantly surprised to see a couple antelope on the eastern skyline. The light was coming on fast and the antelope were moving off the skyline. I tossed a bean bag on the hood of my truck. Set my camera and lens on the bag and quickly focused the 800mm canon lens on the antelope. As it turned out this was one of my favorite images of the entire trip. Sometimes the best image is the first one, the last one or someplace in the middle. For me this image shows the mood of the trip.
Stay in focus. Tim Torell
