If you want to improve your photographic skills join a group of like-minded photography enthusiasts for a fun filled day in Hope Valley.
  We’ll spend the day creating images in the beautiful Hope Valley area.

This workshop is suitable for photographers of all levels*. We’ll cover: composition, exposure,
High Dynamic Range, depth of field, along with other topics participants would like to explore.

Night Sky, Low Light & Star Trails in Hope Valley: October 15th

Hope Valley is a magical place at night, especially under the light of the moon.


This portion of the workshop is only available on Saturday evening October 15th. (limit 6 people) 5pm – 9 pm

Tim will teach you techniques for creating Low Light, Star Still and Star Trail images.


Learn the effect of painting with light and the use of a prop, such as a wall tent, to bring out the drama of a night scene.

You’ll learn:
How to get the correct exposure in the dark.
 How to reduce the digital noise often generated by long exposures.
What kind of subjects/objects work best at night.
How to add interest to a night image by using a flashlight or flash to light an object in the dark.
How to make the stars streak & how to capture them so they don’t move at all!
  How to light the foreground and what camera settings to use. 

Be prepared to fall in love with night photography!

Photography workshops
I am very passionate about photography and enjoy sharing my knowledge of photography with others.

  • Instructional outings include topics such as.
  • Lighting -flash, flash fill, natural, reflective, defused
  • Landscape- Landscape and Moonscapes photography
  • Wildlife – We’ll cover the when, where and how to create stunning wildlife images. I’ll share the techniques I use to create up close and personal wildlife images.
  • Creative – Water drops, smoke trails, smoke and mirrors and the use of photo props.
  • Night and low light as well as painting with light
  • Star trail and star stills – You’ll learn the techniques I us to create star trails and star stills along with the processing in photoshop needed to create a final image
  • Painting with light – One of the most exciting and rewarding styles of night photography. This is one of my favorite techniques.
  • Photoshop – Photoshop can be very frustrating and rewarding. I’ll teach you my photoshop techniques.
  • Adobe Lightroom – For a photographer Adobe Lightroom is one of the most important and powerful tools Adobe has to offer. I’ll show you how to keyword, process, and export images all within Adobe lightroom.
  • I like to limit my groups to 10.
  • One on one is just that – One On One. This is the best way to go. You will receive uninterrupted instructions.
  • Pricing –  If I need to travel beyond the Reno area  there will be additional charges.
  • ½ day - $75 per person, A half day is from sunrise until midday hard light or you get tired.
  • 1 Full day - $150 per person, You’ll have me all day from sunrise to sunset.
  • Full weekend - $400 per person,  This will include 2 full day’s and 2 night photography lessons.  Starting on Friday evening , ending on Sunday afternoon.
